FABRIC receives £4531

FABRIC provides sewing, arts and craft workshops at Hyson Green Community Centre. The group are particularly interested in bringing people together across the generations and improving people's skills and confidence.

During the workshops participants looked into the history and heritage of
carnivals, gained ideas and learnt new skills such as sewing, dying, design, and were able to prepare costumes for the 2009 Nottingham Carnival. The group will participate as a troupe in the forthcoming Carnival demonstrating and exhibiting their costumes. Once the carnival has finished, the group will evaluate the project; plan for the next one and start all over again!

Winifred Knight, founder of FABRIC: "We have strived to get all sorts of people involved in fashion, arts and crafts, and carnival costume making. The most important aspect of all is to bring the people together, to have fun, and to make new friends."
