Our History
NCF was first registered as a charity under the name of Sherwood Coalfield Trust in 1997 to encourage philanthropy for the benefit of the people of Nottinghamshire. NCF changed its name in 2001 to reflect the broader geographical remit of the city and the county of Nottinghamshire and to align to the growth of the Community Foundation Movement in the UK.
We represent a new generation of social business; accountable, transparent, creative and active in engaging committed donors and matching them with areas of genuine concern.
We provide services for donors from across all sectors, under two main functions – Donor Services and Grant Making.
We deliver cost effective and efficient broker service that supports new initiatives and enables joint funding and match funding where possible.
This simple structure allows wealthy individuals, families, local trusts, successful corporate and small businesses and the public sector to deliver their philanthropy on a not for profit basis. Providing expertise to ensure to ensure all grants have a real impact, for all the right reasons and for all time.
NCF has distributed over £25m of grant funding to voluntary and community groups in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire since 2001 to over 3,500 community groups connecting people who care with causes that matter.
