Benjamin Barsby Fund

The Benjamin Barsby fund has already raised almost £45,000 and has donated nearly £25,000 to local projects and innovative work across the UK, with an emphasis on young men’s mental health.

Benjamin BarsbyIn 2015, Benjamin Barsby met a tragic and untimely passing at the age of 21 whilst studying Law at university in London.

Benjamin’s family, partner and friends are determined to mark the loss of Benjamin by working towards helping and creating a more positive outlook for many other individuals, including those who are suffering whilst facing mental or emotional distress.

Working with Nottinghamshire Community Foundation (NCF) they have created a new charitable fund in Benjamin’s name, with a primary aim of growing it to build a permanent legacy in support of mental and emotional wellbeing and preventative work in Nottinghamshire and the UK.

The Benjamin Barsby fund has already raised almost £45,000 and has donated nearly £25,000 to local projects and innovative work across the UK, with an emphasis on young men’s mental health.

The two main charities that have been, and will continue to be supported, are The Samaritans and MIND. The fund has set up specific initiatives with these organisations in order to achieve their long term aims of supporting young men’s mental health and well being.

Additionally, in recognition of Benji’s love of his school, Nottingham High School, and his lifelong passion for playing cricket, they have supported two school schemes.

The Benjamin Barsby Award for all round contribution and achievement at Nottingham High School is now given annually to a boy selected by the school.

Secondly, through the school, the trust supports Nottingham Inner-City Primary School cricket. This provides necessary equipment for schools coached by the High School cricket coach, and culminates in the Benjamin Barsby Trophy being awarded to the winners of the annual tournament.

NCF will administer the fund in accordance with rigorous quality standards approved by the Charity Commission and work with the founders to make joint decisions on the most worthy causes.
